CAM5.2 is a commonly used very low molecular weight keratin. In normal tissues, secreted epithelium (glandular epithelium) is CAM5.2 positive, while laminated squamous epithelium is negative. CAM5.2 is one of the common markers of glandular epithelium and various adenocarcinomas. Cam5.2 can be used in combination with high molecular weight keratin to distinguish adenocarcinoma from squamous carcinoma. In addition, CAM5.2 is generally considered suitable for the detection of metastatic breast cancer in the (sentinel) lymph nodes.
